Rates & the BUDGET
Bluff Rd CALTEX Filling Station
It's time we stopped being debating society
democrats and recognised that unless we
call a halt to the systematic decline and
disintegration of Durban as a result of a
socialist agenda that deliberately ignores
and neglects the basic issues in our wards,
we can forget about the next election. Our
voters - and maybe even some of us - will
have emigrated through despair.

It's not just a question of opposing the
Budget. It's a matter of EXPOSING the
budget, from the sham public participation
through to the deliberate neglect of councillor
input to the fact that the way it is structured
we are planning our own infrastrutural
demise.

Every indication every day in the media
shows that SA is haemorrhaging to death
through incompetence, greed, corruption and
sheer lack of governance:  Eskom, water,
agriculture, rates, wildlife, roads, crime,
health, education, universities,
municipalities, the police, the courts, the
prospect of Zuma. Our appointment with the
bar of history is now. If we don't confront  this
Budget in an extraordinary way and the
shambles that the new rating system is, then
we will have hastened our own demise -
politically  and in every other way. The issues
ratepayers are loudly decrying must be
heeded. Nothing else matters more than the
message that is coming from them.
Residents around the Bluff Rd Caltex Filling
Station are angry at the eviromental damage
being caused by container trucks now
refueling at the Caltex in a residential area.
The safety of school children at Malborough
Park Scool is also in danger as container
trucks speed past and ignore the traffic lights
at the pedestrian crossing.
Research is under way with regard to
Licenses and legal matters but residents will
soon be mobilised to protest action.

Watch this space for details and encourage
residents in the area to register wit BET to be
kept informed of the progress on stopping
this environmental degradation.

The Trucks are BACK!
Hardly a month has passed since the tragic
death of Elaine Thomas caused by a truck
that went out of control. For the past month
Metro Police have stood guard at both ends
of the Bluff and prevented trucks from
entering the Bluff residential area.
Unfortunately the Metro Police could not
sustain the effort and the trucks are back.
So what do we do now? Do we wait for
another disaster and more deaths?
Nothing to our knowledge, has been done
about the safety and security around the
National Key Points - no safety plan for the
residents'.
It looks like we are going to need a greater
protest effort to get rid of trucks on the Bluff. It
seems like a great waste of time that we all
have to spend time protesting instead of
working, just to get public officials to do what
they are mandated to do - care for & protect
citizens!
There just does not seem to be the will to
make sure we do not have another tragedy..
